If you know how to search the archives, you'll find a very good thread describing the process in detail. For a very quick overview:1) put the two garment pieces together, Wrong sides together, lining up the edges. (This feels very backward, but it's correct!)
2) stitch the pieces together, about 1/8 to 1/4" from edge.
3) if the raw edges are fraying badly, trim neatly, then turn the garment, and press the seam while folded.
4) with Right sides together, stitch the seam again, this time about 3/8" from the edge, which is now a neatly finished seam enclosing the seam allowances.
5) turn the garment again and press the seam.Make a few samples, and to keep from reverting to normal seams (right sides together), put a piece of masking or clear tape at one end of each garment piece seamline, labelling it "Wrong Side." (tape works well for marking on sheers, too) It is very difficult to see wrong/right side on chiffon, so it's important to do this as you are cutting out the pattern. Otherwise, all the reversals of French seaming will turn you inside out! (Or you'll find yourself stitching one wrong-side to one right-side.)
Thanks so much for your help! Now I can continue my journey!
