   Sarah, Mary used an out of print jacket from many years ago, and simply altered it. All you need is a basic jacket with a jewel neckline--set-in or raglan sleeves will work. Shorten it to the length you like, alter the sleeve length if desire, and go. Mary's original pattern, if I'm not mistaken, had shaping darts that she simply left unstitched.

   Actually, one of the newest Threads patterns by Simplicity, #4554, has a little jacket that would be just right for this--again, you decide if you want the vertical darts or not. Mary's jacket was made of a matte jersey that was pretty stable, so it could hold up to having all those ruffles sewn on. The ruffles themselves were made of this strange sheer fabric, with a crinkly, rather stiff hand; when cut, it didn't ravel at all, so the edges of the ruffles are unfinished.

   Thank-you Carol!! I'll try the simplicity pattern. I figured that the ruffles must have been something really light since it didn't look like it pulled the fabric downward. I'm soooo excited to try this jacket out!!!!! Thanks again for telling me all about the jacket!!!!:)
