Inside zippered pocket for a purse?
Hi all, I’m new here. I was wondering if anyone has instructions on how to make an inside zippered pocket for a purse/tote bag. I’m currently making a purse, and I just can’t figure out how to make the zippered pocket. This is the type of pocket that will be between the lining and the outside of the purse, not an inside hanging pocket. All I want to see when I look on the inside of the purse is the zipper, not the pocket itself. I’ve looked all over the Internet and can’t find any tutorials. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!!

Decide where you want the zipper to be. Slit the lining fabric, press the edges back and stitch the zipper behind it. Now place a rectangle of fabric behind the zipper and stitch it in place all the way around.
Prepare the pocket bag as you would if you were doing a welt pocket minus the welt, stitch to the right side of the lining then turn through and press. Then position the zip in the opening and pin stitch in place. If you were to use an open ended zip you could do the same thing but substitute the zip for the welt and position the slide before stitching across the ends of the welt opening.
Hope this helps?
Cheers Cathy
Catherine2's suggestion of the welt pocket is perfect; just make sure to construct the pocket in the lining before you attach the lining to the bag. You'll find many online tutorials about making welt pockets; Threads also features suggestions on making welt pockets, too--check out last year's issues, if you can.
