Looking for the Pattern Information

LaurieMoormann | Posted in Feedback on Threads on

I’m looking for information on the dress pattern used in the “Bias-tube filigree” Master Class article in the latest issue (149) of Threads.  I love the embellishment technique, and really loved the bias cut dress.  How can I purchase the pattern?

I was wondering that also as it was a lovely dress. As the writer was a couture dressmaker, I suspect that it is her own design though.

      Just checked out MoonwishesSewing.com

Love what you did with Vogue 2176!

The answer to the green dress question

      HI Gail,

I'm Patricia, the person behind the green dress. Thanks for asking  about it,  I am working on making it available and will let you know. I put a slightly longer answer to Laurie's original question if you want to read that.

      Patricia.

I did a google search of the author's name

This link was posted in August 2008 and has some interesting information about the author and her original pattern.  I don't know if she ever found a way to market her design, but it is lovely.

I really enjoy Threads, but when they feature such a beautiful dress without a pattern reference I think they miss an opportunity for marketing the pattern.

Lovely green dress in issue #149

As has been suggested, the lovely dress on page 74 of issue #149 is the author's original design.

    the answer to your question

    Hi Laurie,

I'm Patricia, the designer/author/illustrator behind the green dress you asked about.  I am working on making it available as a pattern. I'm working with Martha Pullen and Co. to put out some blouse designs in a pattern so it may become available through them. If you've got any other suggestions of connections please let me know. I'm still looking for the best way to get designs in the hands of other people who love to sew and the way I'm doing it now is SO labor intensive ( I am doing all the writing, illustrating of the how-to's, testing all the sizes after the pattern maker grades my first pattern ... on and on it goes ... so it takes forever) anyway, thank you for asking. I will let you know if it becomes available.

    Patricia

      Check out "Fashion Incubator.com"

      Hi, Patricia and Welcome!

I can't even begin to imagine all the work behind turning a "design" into a viable "pattern-for-sale"! (Well, yes I can begin, but I'm sure there are a zillion easy-to-miss details!)

I do heartily recommend Kathleen Fasanella's "Fashion Incubator" site: http://www.fashion-incubator.com/about/ and maybe even that you get her book. Both are wellsprings of useful information and encouragement for all things sewing+commercial, especially her blog.

Best of fortune to you, and do let us know how things are going in pattern-land!

      Bright Blessings ~ Kharmin

Hi Patricia, why didn't you let me know you hit a snag? Not that I'm volunteering to write instructions or illustrate them (you're the expert in that department) but grading is another thing. Does your grader have a CAD system and does she have a plotter? That could be an option at the start, printing patterns to order if you have a digital file. If not, it's not hard to get them digitized, even my son can do it and he knows nothing about sewing (he does all my digitizing).

I just moved and am working on getting my shop together but I plan to start doing small runs of patterns. Maybe I didn't have the plotter when we last spoke? Mine is 72" wide and prints 30 feet or so a minute. I have a friend who has been doing this for years if you need something sooner. My number has changed (505-877-1713).
