I’m making Vogue 2687. Has anyone made this jacket? It’s my second Miyake, and after the first, which was a breeze to put together, and had brilliant instructions, this one is driving me nuts. After you sew on the collar facing it doesn’t feature again till it’s mentioned being sewn to the back neck edge. The diagrams don’t feature it, and I’m totally stumped as to WHERE IT GOES!!!!!! I’ve spent over an hour trying to get this thing to work, and have given up in total frustration. If anyone has made this, please help! This is the first time I’ve actually been at a total loss when faced with a pattern, and I don’t like it. The best I can figure is that the facing folds up inside the collar, making a kind of pocket, and while that looks fine from the outside, the seams don’t match up on the inside no matter what configuration I try. Any assistance would be every so gratefully appreciated. I’m not used to being defeated and I’m not gracious in defeat!

There is a Miyake pattern group on Yahoo but I can't find the link. Can anyone provide it?
I'd love to see a Miyake group. I love his designs, and I want to make quite a few more. Since my cry for help here I've solved the problem. (I ignored it and carried on. The purpose of this funny shaped flap became clear after the lining was sewn in). If any more Miyakes do this to me I'd love to know where to go for help!

Judy, Congratulations on getting the better fo that pattern. It's really a great design, but you can almost tell just from looking at it that something weird must have to happen to get that collar/lapel business to work properly.
I don't know the address of the Miyake group online, but one place you can check if you're having trouble with a pattern is on http://www.PatternReview.com. You can search by pattern number, and see if anyone has reviewed the pattern you're interested in--you might find help there.

Thanks Carol, I already post regularly on PatternReview, and I did ask there if anyone had made it. I didn't even think to search! I've been checking the reviews so regularly for quite a while, so I'd have seen any review within the last year or so though. Now that I've got it under control (and looking fantastic), I've decided to review it myself. It's such a great jacket (fits very well too), and I'd hate for anyone else to have the same problem that I did, and be put off.
Judy
Judy,
What was the pattern that had great instructions and was a breeze to put together?
Linda in NH
Linda, it was Vogue 2651, a knee length coat. There were five pages of instructions, and every step was well explained. There was a LOT of marking (I did it all with thread tracing, and it took days) but it was worth the effort when sewing. It is less complicated, but just as unusual looking.
Judy
Judy,
Thanks for sharing that! I'm gonna check it out--I could use "something new, something different" in my sewing!
Linda
Judy, Can you hang on till next week, I plan to start that jacket too ?
Teri, if I can be of any help, I'd be happy to. This was a very rewarding project to make, and not as hard as I may have suggested! Frustration makes me vent. Best of luck on yours, keep us posted on progress.

Judy,
I checked out those two patterns. Not for me--I don't have the fashion sense (or the place to wear them) to carry off jackets like those! Sigh. . .. maybe some day!
Linda
Linda, I made 2651 in pink (not a colour I wear often) as an everyday coat, and I love it. It dresses up my beloved, but slightly sad-looking jeans and makes me look like I care about my clothes! I've always been attracted to unusual and unique styles, but I don't want to look like I'm wearing a halloween costume down the street. These two fit right into my philosophy, if not my wardrobe. The 2687 is still on my dummy in the living room because my wardrobe isn't big enough to hang it without squashing the collar!
