No Slip

sunnycenter | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hi,
I want to make some slipper socks using the nubby no slip stuff on the bottom. What needle should I use and are there any other things I should know about it?
Thanks,
Sun

I just finished a pair of booties for a child large enough to stand and walk and I used a standard 80/12 universal in my sewing machine and regular needles in the serger.  The biggest trick is to put the non-slip stuff between other fabric when sewing or it sticks to the machines and is horrible to sew....    The booties have reg. fabric  for the insole so I sandwiched the non-slip as I sewed and it works just fine.........

    Good luck!

You were offered a needle size which should work well.

What you might find helps is a teflon foot.  This allows the all to move readily through the feed dogs.  In the absence of the foot, you might try using a quality wax paper if you find there's any drag.

By quality, I mean something other than is purchased in a Dollar Store.  This brand lacks the strudiness of the better known ones.

I tried my teflon foot and even with that I had problems due to the uneven texture and the stickiness combined.  By sandwiching it in between the insole and the top portion of the bootie it worked like a dream.  I then have to turn the bootie right side out so my seam in on the inside............

Thanks everyone. The instructions have me do the sandwich then turn thing I believe so it should be good.
