Purchasing 2 new sewing machines

user-111269 | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

HELP!  My sewing machine died yesterday.  I am interested in purchasing a sewing machine that will be able to handle multiple layers of batting/fleece and also want to purchase an embroidery machine.  I have been scanning the Internet for hours and am SO confused!  Any suggestions?  Thanks so much!!!

There are several threads on this, check out the archives.  I love my Viking machines, have a Designer 1, Rose, and serger from them that is great.

The best and only way in my opinion to find the right machine for you is to go to the dealers and test drive the machines with the textiles you wish to use.  I cannot stress enough the importance of finding a dealer you can trust.  They should be happy to let you test drive machines, answer questions, have classes currently available for the specific machine you are buying, some have free classes, some will let you use their machines and take a few classes for a fee.  Where will the machine be serviced?  Warranty.  Machines are so extremely overpriced you can expect to have sticker shock, don't let that deter you from getting a good quality machine.  Dealers sometimes have demos that are in good shape and will save you a bundle if available.

Most embroidery designs are formatted for the major brands of embroidery machines, but that depends on wether they are home or industrial machines.

I would not buy from a department store or discount store that does not have the knowledgeable creative staff you will find at the dealers.  Some even have clubs.

Thanks, Mary...I followed your advice and found a Pfaff machine to handle my sewing needs.  The Pfaff IDT foot system was exactly what I needed to handle my projects.  The dealer was wonderful and does offer the free classes.  I still want to purchase an embroidery-only machine as well, but need to save up a bit of $...thanks again!

Think of the Janome 300e  Its cheap and really good.
