Sewing classes

guitar_claire | Posted in General Discussion on

Does anyone know if anywhere to get sewing classes in the Atlanta area? I have taken all the classes at JoAnn’s but I am ready for more of a challenge. I would like to learn costume construction and basic design. Any ideas?

I can't answer your question directly, but if you contact the Atlanta chapter of the American Sewing Guild (ASG), someone there may be able to help you. I know there's a chapter that meets in Tucker, and there are others, I believe, in the metro area. Google American Sewing Guild, and you can find a web page for the Atlanta group, so you can get contact info there

Another idea is to contact one of the theatre companies and ask to speak to their costume designers.

Great recommendation, Ask local designers/seamstresses if they teach one-on-one classes. I do that in California, but don't really promote it. It is a good way to learn exactly what you want to, with a custom class designed for your interests at your pace and your time.

Go to http://www.ASG.org  and click on Chapter info. You can put in your state and it will bring up the chapter names and who to contact.  Georgia actually has two chapters and many neighborhood groups.  One of the chapters has a web site which you can look through, but you won't be able to see everything.  There are members only areas to protect members who have information out there for the events posted. Please contact one of the chapters, they will have many events as well as monthly meetings to learn new things.  They will also know of all the places to take classes.  When it comes to sewing they are a very informative group.

If you want to know what ASG is like, do a search here at Gatherings and several postings will come up.

If you have any problems, let me know and I will get some help for you.
