This is my first post–not sure which forum would be best so I’ve posted it to a couple here on Threads. Sorry if you are reading a repeat!
I will be teaching a beginning sewing class with a list of required subjects. One is the use of tailors chalk. Since I myself never use it , I am hoping to hear how anyone might use it . Google turns up a description of ttailors chalk and what it is supposed to be used for. but doesn’t give any description of how to actually use it. When it shows how to transfer markings for darts and so on, it uses tailors tacks and dressmakers carbon. I’d be glad for any tips and descriptions from those of you who use it. for any purpose.
Thank you!
Ruth

Hi Ruth,
I'm new here I was reading your post on tailor chalk, I use all the time here are some of the things I use it for-
To draw a line on the material.
To mark where the dart goes.
You could use it to mark the dimonds on the pattern as well, but I don't I just nick while I am cutting out .
Tring to think what else I think I use it more but it just something I do and don't relise .

I use it daily to mark hems that need to be shortened, as well as a few other alterations I need to mark. I don't own a fabric marker, but I guess this takes its place.
Some tailors use it while the person is actually wearing the garment. I wait until I get it on my ironing board! It is actually made of wax and it melts when you hit it with your iron, so it becomes invisible (test fine fabrics first.)
