Help! I am finishing a prom dress of acetate and rayon taffeta and have a few water marks from pressing (without a press cloth) and where my iron spewed water onto it. Any suggestions as to how to remove them? The last time I had this problem was on the bodice of a silk shantung flower girl’s dress. On that piece I simply spritzed the rest of the bodice to even out the color but I don’t think I can do that on this dress. Thanks for your help!

Oh, wow, acetate is about the least stable fabric on the planet, and it does NOT like water at all. When that happened to a friend's prom dress, I used a blow dryer and a soft cotton rag to buff away the marks, but it was in an inconspicuous place, and another pre-prom disaster forced her to wear a different gown anyway.
Maybe a professional dry cleaner can help?
Thanks for the suggestion but prom is this Saturday!
Sorry this reply is post-prom, but I deal with spots on satins, taffetas and chintzes by spraying moderately with spray starch, allow it to penetrate the fabric, then press. Often this removes the ring that water will make on fabrics. God bless you Galey
Thanks for posting this tip. I never would have thought of it and I'm sure many of us have faced this problem at one time.Sherry
What a fantastic idea! I hope to make many more formal dresses in my sewing lifetime so I will probably use this! Thanks a bunch:)
