I love peacock feathers and decided to be a Peacock Lady for Halloween this year! I had peacock feathers and a feather printed cotton in my sewing room ready to go, but if you don’t you can buy the feathers online. I bought the fabric several years ago, intending to stitch up a dress and this costume finally brought that idea to light. I didn’t have a lot of time, so I decided on a simple wrap dress that I can add details to later.
I also wanted a tail that would allow me to move through a crowd and sit with ease. A verticle, belted tail glued to an oval of felt covered cardboard worked perfectly all night long. It also removed easily for the trip to and from the party. First I cut an oval of cardboard that would comfortably rest on the small of my back, then cut two loops on either side to lace a belt through and began adhering the tallest feathers that would face front with hot glue. Then I added layers of back facing feathers at decreasing heights, laying them out first to make sure they looked good. To finish off my tail I covered an oval of felt with eye feathers and hot glued that to the cardboard and feathers. I laced a borrowed belt through the loops and was ready to go.
After adding a feathered hair clip (hotglued together) and eyelashes (purchased), bright red lipstick and peacock colored shadow, my super feminine costume was ready!
