I am the seamstress and my mother is getting really good at using wool roving and doing felted art projects. I had made this cranberry A-line dress out of wool and it was to plain to wear. After scouring the internet for some kind of design inspiration I came up with this. She showed me how to use the felting needles and I chose some variegated roving. The roving is creams, grays, and kahki. I wound, twisted, and poked long strands. After carefully placing the main colors i went back and used a little red and pink roving for accents. I added a little bit of black also. When it looked like I wanted I hand sewed some strands of black beads in various areas to outline certain parts. I then used some flat sequins and beads in pink to highlight and add sparkle. Each time I have worn this I am complimented over and over about it’s uniqueness. I am so pleased with the outcome.
My inspiration came from one of the Make it with Wool winners several years ago that did a felted pattern on her dress. it took awhile to accomplish but I just love it.
What a beautiful expression of your creativity! The dress and neckline really flatters your frame and the embellishments just push it over the top without overwhelming the simple lines of the dress. Well done!
