Cute as a Bumblebee

This is my rif on a toddler costume shown in Martha Pullen’s “SewBeautiful” magazine.  I raided the “dress up” box for an old party dress of my daughter-in-law’s, did away with the straps and added a snap at the neckline to close.  Gathered net decorated with rick-rack made the ruffles and wired ribbon decorated the neck with the addition of a pom-pom bee.

The wings were a challenge because they needed to be light enough for a 3 yr. old and light enough to not drag the dress down AND then fit into a car-seat.  Wired ribbon proved to be the answer…it can be reshaped many times to continue to look fresh.

The antennas are made of pipe cleaners and pom-poms hot glued to an inexpensive headband covered with ribbon.

Cost of the whole costume…less than $7!
