Back Detail

I created the first dress with the floral yellow tones for my daughter who is 16, tall, blond and thin… my very own life size Barbie. Normally she wears what every teen girl out there wants, short skimpy dresses, which I hate. When she saw me sketching this and she saw the vintage fabric and she fell in love and asked me to make it for her I was stun. The other dress is for a client who wanted the same dress but with a less revealing back since it was for her daughter’s confirmation. Besides the back she also wanted a the skirt less full (my daughters dress is a circle skirt) and with pleats. I also added the short bolero for the ceremony in church. When the dress was finished the girl walked out of my house wearing it…she didn’t want to take it off.

I start all my designs with the basic pattern. I use Butterick B5627 and work from it to create my own designs. Sometimes it’s hard since there are no sewing instructions to follow as with store bought patterns. I love a good puzzle and figuring things out is part of the fun.

Just a note, I love to add linings in color for my garments. I used red for the confirmation dress.

Very cute. I especially like the yellow one. That yellow fabric was a bold choice...and it looks great! Nice job.
