Pattern Review: Cashmerette: Grafton Dress, Top, and Skirt
Every Dress, All at Once
Skill Level
Quick and easy—suitable for confident beginners.
Size Range and Fitting
Sized in two ranges (sold separately), 0 to 16 and 12 to 32; fits busts 33 inches to 62 inches, waists 25 inches to 52 inches and hips 35 inches to 62 inches. Separate pattern pieces are provided for C/D, E/F, and G/H cups. Includes information for measuring and choosing the right size. Designed for “curvy” body types. There is enough ease in the body, but the sleeves (except for the bishop) may run narrow.
Fabrics
Lightweight to mid-weight knit fabrics such as jersey, ITY, ponte, or double knit. Follow the suggested stretch percentages and note the exceptions. Opt for lightweight fabrics, otherwise the dress will be heavy. Reserve heavier knits for the bodices. Stable knits are easier for beginners.
Style and Sewing Details
This pattern has various components to mix and match, yielding more than 400 possible dresses, tops, and skirts. There are three bodices, five necklines, six sleeves, and seven skirts. Each bodice can be made as a top or part of a dress. Each skirt can be combined with any bodice option to make a dress or sewn on its own as a pull-on skirt with a 1-inch-wide waistband.
• One bodice is relaxed with dropped shoulders. The other two are sleeveless or with a sleeve. All bodices are fitted with front and back waist darts. Some are lined, others finished with a binding.
• Neckline choices are crewneck, turtle, scoop, square, or V-neck.
• Sleeve designs are sleeveless, short, half, long, bishop with a 4-inch cuff, or a dropped shoulder style.
• The skirts are A-line, in knee or maxi length; straight, above the knee, knee, or midi with side-seam hemline slits; draped asymmetrical; and a mid-calf length, three-panel circle skirt. Nearly all have pockets.
• Pattern instructions and illustrations are extensive, well detailed, clear, and accurate.
