Has anyone made a jacket using a t shirt rather than a sweat shirt?
I am planning to make some pieced jackets meant for sweatshirts. I have several patterns. I have sweatshirts, but I also have a number of relatively heavy long sleeve tshirts and would prefer a lighter weight jacket.

I personally have not made one of these jackets, but several of my students have. I do not see why you should not be able to change it to a heavy t- shirt, but you will need to take into consideration that the t-shirt will not be as stable, having more stretch to it. You might want to layer some scrap fabric onto an old t- shirt and experiment with the stitch length, needle, foot pressure etc. to find out what potential problems and solutions would be.
Other than what lynnewill mentioned, the only problem I see is that the sleeves may not be full enough . That could be remedied, of course, with an insert into the current seam. It might have to become a design element if you don't have enough of the same fabric, but that could just get your creative juices flowing.
Good luck. Keep us posted.
