I have two bits of sewing advice:
1. My Home Ec. teacher said your garments must be so well done, you could wear them inside-out.
2. My mother taught me to get up and walk away for a while when you start fighting with the sewing machine.

My mother was trained as a milliner, and along with most of them, she said that if the garment wouldn't ravel, nobody cared about the inside. However, she also believed strongly in getting up and walking away.
1. Did that teacher teach you to accomplish that?! I wish I had her class.
2. Your mother was absolutely right. I know from experience. It helps a lot!
