boucle skirt

timewisher | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I am in the process of making a skirt from a loosely woven boucle’. It has a flair along the hemline. Should I interline the fashion fabric? I am lining the skirt but, wonder if the boucle’ needs support to hold shape and give strength.

    Timewisher,

I have made 2 boucle skirts, one wool, one some kind of poly/blend.  The wool skirt was interfaced with a lightweight fusible.  It was a basic, straight, knee length with a back walking slit.  At 8 years old, it still looks great!  The other was not interfaced, only underlined and lined, and it is a more loosely woven fabric.  The skirt has small godets around the hemline and I think the lack of interfacing has kept the fabric's hand more conducive to the godet styling.  Despite the lack of additional support the interfacing would have provided, the skirt continues to hold its shape after countless washings.  I would think the underlining together with the lining would provide enough stability unless the weave is exceptionally loose.

      Sue,

Thankyou, I will go ahead and add the extra step of interlining. My fabric is loosely woven.
