Bridal Veil

kayrosie | Posted in General Discussion on

Okay I know I have way to many questions but here is another one.

I am looking actually for a magazine that I had this summer and somebody threw it away. It was by Simplicity and was all bridal patterns and gowns and veils.  If anybody would happen to have it I would be happy to pay for it or you could run me off a copy of the wedding veil directions.
My soon to be daughter in law wants to make her veil and I was wondering if anybody had the directions on how to make one.

I don't have the specific mag. you saw. but I have made lots of veils from pictures or just a description of what they want.  If you can't come up with the specific directions you saw, I'd be happy to help you through your own design.  Does the Bride have a picture of what she wants, or something close to it?

The basic questions to answer are:

    how long?

    how wide?  (blusher or not)

how to attach to head?- must work with hair style chosen

    decorations? lace edge? 'pencil' edge?

    The tricky spots are:

cutting a smooth edge (if no lace or edge treatment is planned)- use a roller cutter & mat

gathering the width small enough to hide under a small barrette (may not apply to all cases)

getting the blusher long enough so it doesn't stick straight out from her forehead (ask me how I know!!)

    Enough generalities for today,

    Becky

No blusher just one long veil.  I found a place on line and now I can't find it again. I have to go search that out.  Thanks for you help.  She is just attaching to a metal comb.  No decoration or anything but some jewels glued on. Do you know what kind of glue you can use and if you can use a glue gun on this.

Hot glue gun might work, but it could get messy!  I would use Gem Tac or Tacky Glue.

A long veil on a single comb can be problematic; make sure that comb is not coming out of her hair!  I usually recommend using 2 bobby pins, crossed, to make an anchoring place for the comb to be inserted. Combs are notorious for coming loose at just the wrong time.  Consider using a blank barrette base, they hold better, and I think they are easier to decorate than combs.

        Hope this helps,

        Becky

I will pass along this information.  I think she is actually decorating something as for the base and then putting the metal comb in her hair.  That is the way I understand she is doing it now.  Being only the mother in law (to be) I don't want to over step my grounds.  You know what I mean.

you mght have to have a pros  and con list and then nobody can question it is on paper and have a note book with a lot of ideas in their so she can see the difference in a lot of head dresses  is she a shy person or is she the life of the party  just remind her she does not want it to fall out   Have fun

SHE IS ACTUALLY WONDERFUL.  THAT IS WHY SHE IS PUTTING IN TWO COMBS.  SO SHE CAN TAKE THE VEIL OFF AND STILL HAVE A COMB IN TO KEEP HER HAIR UP.
