Hi Kaitydid,
I have a brother sewing machine. I has worked pretty good for me so far.
Brother has made industrial machines for years. They make very good embroidery machines and have made them for other brands including sergers for other brands. Their new top of the line home sewing machines are rather outstanding with good quality stitches and nice features, like Babylock's machines. If you find that Babylock and Brother are much the same, I have heard that Brother makes Babylock but Babylock has their own specifications and different distribution company which is Tacony. Brother also makes some very low grade models that are sold at Walmart.
I own an outstanding Brother made embroidery machine and never thought I would own one of their sewing machines. I always felt their sewing machines were not of good quality because I had only seen some of their lower models. I have some good machines of different brands but I do now own a Brother Innovis Quilt Club model and really love it. It has some outstanding features that my other machines don't have and I use it the most for clothing construction and quilting. I use my machines for different tasks and do love my other brands also.
I have seen that now even Brother's lower models and their inexpensive serger are well reviewed by owners online at PatternReview.
