Clone yourself a dress form

Villagedressmaker | Posted in General Discussion on

It was great to turn on my laptop this evening, and see all of these posts on making dress forms. On Saturday I am getting together with my daughter to make a “clone” of her. She works at

hospital, and has gotten some of the bandages that are used for setting broken bones in a cast. We plan to wrap her, and then cut the “body cast”, and fill it with poly urethane foam. I found the pourable foam at a marine store. Have any of you made a dress form using this particular method? My daughter, and I think this experience will provide many laughs, but also a valuable tool for her to address her fitting challenges. At this point [she is 37] she has a lovely slim figure, so hopefully she won’t dislike seeing “herself” in the corner!
If any of you have tried this method, I would love to hear any tips that you can share. Thanks!

If you are using the plaster cast wrappings, you will need some serious cutting implement to get her out of it. Think about what you can do to make this easier. If your daughter works at a hospital she will know what they use to remove a cast.

Thanks for the "heads up". My daughter has already gotten a pair of scissors that are used to remove a cast. I hope they are good and sharp!
