I’m making pj bottoms for my daughter and am looking for a source to buy pajama elastic in fun colors. Any suggestions? Only colors I seem to find are black and white!
Thanks.

Hi Louise:
I used to work in a fabric store in the late eighties and one could get the cutest coloured elastic in wider widths - sometimes with a ruffled edge. I think it was used for pull-on pants made with t-shirt knit prints. I guess the fashions have changed a bit since then. I do remember making a pull-on skirt back than and not being able to find the right shade of purple. I ended up dying a piece of elastic; it wasn't perfect as the rubber didn't take the dye at all, but it worked out okay. Would you consider trying to dye a piece and see how it turns out? Kool-Aid (unsweetened) makes a surprisingly good and inexpensive dye. I'm not exactly sure of the techniques required to set Kool-Aid dyed products, but I'm sure you might find more info about it thru Google. Anyway, it might be worth it just to try dyeing, like, an inch of elastic in a wee bit of Kool-Aid powder. Depending on the content of the elastic (nylon/polyester/cotton), you might get some interesting results.
Tah,
Kay
From experience I find that KoolAid dye fades quickly in the wash, and I would think that for pjs the dye would only be temporary.
