creating a zip-out lining for an off-the-rack raincoat or trench

hollydollydoo | Posted in General Discussion on

Hi,

A life-long sewer here….is there anyone who has made a zip-out lining for an off-the-rack (as opposed to a home-sewn) raincoat or trench?  The challenge would be to create a pattern for the lining without pulling apart the coat.  There are some lovely off-the-rack coats available this season, but I can’t justify the cost unless there is a zip-out lining.

Any help to a link, etc, would be appreciated!

Putting a lining in a coat isn't that difficult.  I would think you would want to remove the body of it and take apart enough - maybe one arm hole and shoulder seam to be able to copy it.   You  could do it without separating the sleeves from the coat.  Then I would add a wide bias tape to the original lining and sew it back in with one side of the zipper. The bias tape will give you enough room to sew further away from the original seam so as to hide the zipper application.  Then make a new heavy lining and add the other half of the zipper.. zipper.  Haven

    t done it ...just thinking...
