crotch gusset

eauinaz | Posted in Fitting on

I remember an article or tip in Threads for adding a gusset in the crotch of some too tight pants. What is the issue #? Or what would be the best size and placement?

#27 has this article, I hope it's the one you want....ADDING A GUSSET TO A PANTS PATTERN .

I did this to a pair of ready made jeans. I sewed the back pocket shut and cut away the fabric from underneath and made a gusset out of that little piece - about 4 inches long and two inches wide in a diamond shape. Made the jeans very comfortable and is virtually invisible.

Thanks for responding. I figure the longer length of the diamond goes parallel to the legs of the pants. Is this right?

Yes, the longer side is parallel to the leg. You can also cut the diamond in half and sew it to the top of the inseam. You are really just extending the crotch length between the legs. That way you can sew the crotch seam back together from front to back and it may be a little easier to fit together.
