I’m just getting back into sewing again after a long hiatus. I’ve bought myself what looks like a nice sewing machine but now I am reading about sergers and how great they are. Do I need one? I want to make clothes and craft projects for myself. I doubt I am going to suddenly start marketing items. But I do want what I make to look as professional as possible.
So, experienced folk, do I need a serger?
Thanks!

do I need a serger
If you can afford one and are planning to do much sewing, yes. You can get by without one, but having one makes some things go much faster and easier and that leaves you more timerfor the other things you can do with your sewing machine. I haven't been doing much sewing in the last couple of years, but I've used my serger as much or more than my machine. Since I've lost some weight, I used mine the other day for taking in some knit pants and tops. It was much, much, much faster and more professional looking than if I'd used my sewing machine. it just took a few minutes and I didn't have to rip open any old seams, etc., like I would have to do with my sewing machine. Do a little reading and then go test drive one.

I ask, do you need a right hand, if yes, get one. Love it, love it and I have been sewing for over sixty years
