Fabric from Bend it like Beckham

Pegybell | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I just love the fabric used to make the everyday wardrobe in the movie Bend it like Beckham.  I am thinking especially of the mother’s wardrobe.  I don’t think this is Sari fabric as Sari’s seem to be for special occasions or are very dressy.

Can someone educate me on what the fabric for everyday wear is called?

Thanks,

Peg

She was probably wearing a salwar kamiz (Salwar are the pants, Kamiz is the tunic). There are a lot of sites selling Indian clothing online that you can check out to see what they are using to make them -- it really ranges from cottons, rayons, and silks. You could also go to your local Indian store (they seem to be hidden away in almost every community) and ask what they have. Folkwear has a great pattern for the Kamiz and churidar (tight ankles) pants, and another one with salwar.
