Fabric Spree in Montreal?

tec | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

PLease help! My daughter and myself are heading to Montreal in a couple of weeks for a fabric shopping spree. Although we will be looking for a wide variety of fabrics, most important on our list is bridal fabrics and embellishments for my daughter’s wedding gown. Any suggestions on shops to check out??

Our empty suitcases await to be filled,

tec

I don't really know the fabric shops in Montreal, I haven't had the opportunity to go fabric shopping there for ages... But I do know that St-Hubert Street is where they are. Keep us informed if you ever find gems...

Sorry for the delay in responding....I've been sick all week. There are lots of great fabric stores in Montreal. For high end fabrics, you could try Mink's on Greene Ave. in Westmount. Great drool factor, unfortunately with prices to match. But the best selection will be on St. Hubert Street, north of Jean Talon. The street is lined with fabric stores. Some of my favourites include Tissus St. Hubert, C & M Textiles, Tissus Paisley, and Textiles Couture Elle. Be prepared to do lots of looking....the wares along this street include everything from cheap cotton to high end wools and silks. Best buys include 60" wide fusible interfacings that can be had for $3-4/metre (I miss them...the same merchandise here in Edmonton retails for $12/m, if you can get your hands on it!) As I recall, there are also several shops specializing in trimmings, bead and laces.

Enjoy your trip! Hope you find lots to fill your suitcases!

Thank you for all info on Montreal shops. My daughter and I are both fabriholics and are excited about are trip. I'll keep my eye open for the interfacing you mentioned, there certainly isn't anything like that around here (Halifax).

I just looked through my collection of business cards saved from my years in Montreal, and the place that had the wide interfacing is Textiles Debouk at 7254 St. Hubert, though there are certainly other stores that carry it.

When is your trip? Montreal is gorgeous at this time of year.....Enjoy!
