Gloria Fabric–what is it?

nekko2 | Posted in General Discussion on

Does anyone here know what  “gloria” is–the fabric, I mean.  Annre of Green Gables had a dress made of it, and I want to know if it is as  I imagined it, and/or if anyone knows of a soure for it today.  Thank you.

My 1949 Webster's dictionary (love this old huge book!) says "A glossy fabric, consisting of silk and wool or silk and cotton, used for umbrellas, dresses, etc."

For some reason, I had in my mind that this was a lightweight satin-finish fabric.  Thanks, Elisabeth, for confirming that suspicion!

      I love Anne of GG.....
