Hamholder

TJSEWS | Posted in Equipment and Supplies on

Does anyone know where I can purchase a hamholder?  I have a Dritz ham and was told that Dritz discontinued making hamholders.  I purchased the wooden one from Clotilde but had to return it because it was huge, way too big for my ham.  I surfed the internet, looked on eBay, visited fabric stores.  I thought I would try asking all of you great people before giving up my search.  Thanks.

FWIW, mine is made by June Tailor and I bought it from Nancy's Notions....but it must be a decade ago. You might want to check their website anyway - you never can tell!

Thanks for the suggestion.  I just looked at the Nancy's Notions website as well as June Tailor's website and did not see any hamholders listed.  Anyway, I emailed them to see whether they have any not listed on the websites.

If you cant find one I use a squashy cushion and push my hame into it it.

      That's a great idea.  Thanks!

I think there was a discussion here about this a little while ago. You could try a search on the forum. Someone said they used one of those football holder things, what they put the ball in to kick it, to hold their ham. I love that idea and I imagine any sporting goods store and maybe even places like walmart have those.

If you are not afraid of using a saw, take a look at http://fiber-images.com/mall/008_Tailor_Tools.htm.

I have heard that no one is producing ham holders anymore and the ones that are out that are sized for larger hams. There is a man who goes to the various sewing expos who has started making them -- unfortunately I don't know his name and, again, they were larger than you want. One idea from a sewing friend is to find a cookie tin that's about the right size and bend it so it supports your ham. Good luck.

What about looking for a napkin holder or mail rack - either wood or chrome finish?  ... or a standing paper towel holder - you could cut down a wooden one to a suitable size, or bend a chrome one to suit.

I emailed the Nancy's Notions and June Tailor websites and they got back to me telling me that they discontinued hamholders....oh well.

In any case, I have all of the wonderful creative ideas suggested here by you and the others and will certainly give them a try.  Thanks so much!

There's no pictures or dimensions but this UK site is selling a ham holder. Not sure if they ship internationally either.

Thanks for sending the link.  I checked it out but could not find the hamholder but instead found lots of sewing machine accessories.  Where in the website is the hamholder listed?

I think I'll just give up on finding a hamholder and have to find a creative solution instead, one of the many ideas posted here I am sure will work out.

Sorry about the problem with the link. On the top navigation bar choose "Pfaff", then select "sewing aids". The 6th item down is a ham holder.

I purchased the Clotilde ham and had to return it because it was huge, way too big for my ham.  Thanks anyway!
