I have another question. (I posted the one last week about the hip formation pattern.) I have made several pairs of pants with inseam pockets and years ago I made a lined cape with slits in a seam for arms to come through. Always and I mean always, no matter the size or reinforced sewing the seam above and below the pocket or slit opens up. Sometimes it is next to the stitching, but most of the time it is the seam itself that comes undone. Any ideas on why this happens or how to prevent it from happening.

inseam pockets
It sounds like the seam above the pocket or arm hole is popping due to downward pressure. If this seems to be the case, doing the seam in a stretch stitch might help--my machine has a trimotion stretch stitch, but when that's too bulky, I use a shallow zigzag. My husband's suits have a bar tack at the top of the pants pockets--very sturdy--the fabric will give way before the stitching will (ask me how I know this! :) Issey Miyake uses a fabric patch, edge-stitched and X-stitched, at the top of slits, a solution I also like. Good luck!
Slits on cape
Hi,
If you apply twill tape to the inside of that seam top and bottom corners...that might help. I saw this in Clotilde's book.
Good Luck,
