leather for trim – source?

Martha_Lewis | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

I’m making a red wool jacket that I want to trim with leather, preferably lightweight. Does anyone know where I can find this? Black, natural, dyed or un-dyed….doesn’t have to be big pieces, strips will do.

Thanks, Martha

Martha, Threads has had several good articles on sewing with leather. I agree that you want a fairly light-weight garment leather to make a binding that won't be stiff. Sandy Scrivano has written several articles, which include lots of good sources for garment leathers. Try issues no. 96, pp. 64-69; no. 85, pp. 52-55, and 67, pp. 58-62.

Several sources that she mentions have websites:
    http://www.hidehouse.com; http://www.leathersuedeskins.com; and http://www.tandyleather.com
