lining a skirt

lorelle | Posted in General Sewing Info on

I have made a straight skirt pattern with a box pleat in the back. I would like to line this skirt but I am not sure how to make the pattern for the lining and how to sew it into the skirt in the box pleat area. Appreciate advice. thanks

In a couture sewing book I saw something about this I think that you make the top( waist toHip) as a straight skrt and the make a separte skirt with the box pleat in it this means that you dont get the bulk around the waist and tummy hi are but you do get the freedom to move with the pleat. I think it is in Claire Schaeffers book

An option I have seen on a very expensive skirt was a lining that had a finished rectangular opening to correspond with the box pleat. That is, the whole skirt was lined except for the pleat; the lining was tacked to edges of the pleat on the inside. In that way, the pleat isn't hampered by the lining or made any bulkier than it needs to be.
