Need opinions on Viking Designer 1
I am trying to decide on a new sewing machine. I have the old Touch and Sew from the mid 60’s my mother bought me when I was 8. It does not do very nice fancy stitches and the buttonholer is difficult and so I have quit trying anything fun, except Halloween costumes for the kids. I live in a small town. The local dealer carries Vikings. I am looking at a Designer 1. I don’t have time to do a lot of sewing but I don’t want to feel limited like I do now. I need something that is not difficult to use. The price tag is high. She has an older model Designer 1 with a floppy disk instead of the newer USB port. I have briefly looked on the Web for information on Janome and Bernina but they don’t seem to have big hoops like the viking. Dealers for these brands are also over 20 miles away and this dealer is 5 miles. I looked at the Platinum and the Quilt designer ii but by the time I started adding other features I was up to the same price as the Designer 1. Help me with some experienced advice. Thank you

I have a designer 1 and am quite happy with it. (I also have an older Bernina) I don't know how much she is charging you for it, but it shouldn't be outrageous, most dealers can't seem to sell the Designer 1 since the Designer SE came out. make sure you do a search on the internet for prices at other places so you can 'comparison' shop.
I can't seem to find prices on the internet other than E-Bay. I have called other dealers and they will not give me any prices on the phone - come in to our store and look. The web site for Viking has no prices. Has anyone bought one recently and was it USB or floppy?
thank you for your help
