Need to shrink polyester

WendyC | Posted in Fabric and Trim on

Any hints to shrink polyester jacquard fabric (heavy, curtain weight)?  Fabric has embellishments and has stretched in places — need to shrink to get the stretchy places to lie flat.  thanks for any guidance!

Unfortunately you can't shrink polyester like you do cotton and natural fibers, that's one of it's advantages in most cases.

I agree, synthetics generally don't shrink. Is this anything you can solve by blocking and pressing? Pin it on your ironing board to size and shape, steam heavily, then don't move till its dry. Move on to the next section and try the same. Is this possibly off grain or is the trim just too heavy?

Thanks for your help!  I'll try it ... I think the trim is too heavy for the base fabric - ug, another learning experience.  I'm keeping a journal so I don't make that mistake again. :)
