Need Vest Armscye Fix

HC | Posted in Fitting on

Hi.

My friend’s vest pattern results in an unsightly bulge at the armscye, just above the bust. I seem to recall reading somewhere (Threads?) about a technique for eliminating the extra fabric by taking a tuck in the pattern. Can anyone direct me to some advice on how to fix this problem, or tell me how to do it? Thanks very much from both of us.

This bulge often occurs because there isn't enough fabric to cover the bust area so it "borrows" fabric from the armhole area and creates a bad fit there.  Sandra Betzina's book Fast Fit has easy to understand directions for fixing this.  Basically you need more fabric in the bust area if your friend is full busted.  You can add some room by adding a dart and lengthening the bust area of the vest this way.  There is another more complicated approach that is well described in the book.  I've had great success with her method and find it faster and easier than other ones I have tried.  Good luck
