Here are a couple of bags that I made last week. The purse is “Laura’s Zippered Tote” by Laura Martell, who is a designer who lives in Raleigh. It’s for me (yay!), and I love all the pockets–3 on the front (for keys, phone, sunglasses), 1 large one on the back (will hold a magazine or book–here’s where I didn’t follow the pattern), and 3 inside (for lipstick, tissues, etc.) The lining is a funky bright kitty cat print. Here’s a link to the pattern: http://www.thecreativethimble.com/laurasziptote.html
The smaller one is a makeup case for a cousin who’s graduating from high school this weekend. No pattern for this one, just used fabric leftover from the purse, and lined it with a chic shopping bag print. I hope she likes it–if not, maybe she’ll like the little bit of $$ that’s going inside it! 🙂

Wow! Beautiful bags! Thanks for sharing the photos!! I may have to check out that pattern. It sounds awesome with all the pockets!

Thanks! It was easy to make, basically just rectangles sewn together. I've also used Lazy Girl Designs purse patterns, but I like this one better.
Those are both wonderful! Nice job! Thank you for sharing your pics!

Thanks for your compliments. I'm enjoying my new purse!
These are great. Nothing classier than a monogram!
Thanks! I got an embroidery machine a little over a year ago, and I also purchased Monogram Wizard Plus software. The software was a bit pricey, but I've used it a lot on purses, pillows, and towels. I'm having fun with it!
P.S.--I see that you're in the Adirondacks. My husband grew up in Utica/New Hartford and still has family there. In fact, we'll be vacationing in Lake Placid and Schroon Lake next month! Beautiful place in the summer, but the winters are too cold and white for me (I'm a native NC girl!)

The purse and the bag are beautiful. Who wouldn't love the make-up bag. Thanks for posting the pictures.
Thanks for your compliments. Julianne is somewhat of a glamour girl, so I hope she enjoys the makeup bag.
Very nice! I really like the lettering and the monogram! Mary
Thanks! I'm having fun with my embroidery machine.
Those look fabulous. Thanks for sharing. I just found this site and it's great.
Thanks for your compliments. And welcome aboard!
Thanks for the great welcome! I'm always thrilled to read and discuss sewing, which I reallllllly love.
Wow, fabulous bags. I love the colours you chose to constrast. Where did you buy the black/main fabric?
Thanks for your compliments! I lucked out and found the black fabric at Joann's. It's just plain old trigger cloth, but I did fuse Decor Bond to it to give more body to the purse. That's what the pattern called for, and I think it works well. For Julianne's makeup bag, I used just the trigger cloth with a cotton fabric lining.
The bags are lovely. Your cousin should love the make up case. Personalization makes all the difference. I can imagine it being shown off to many. I too have an embroidery machine and love it.
Thank you. Julianne was thrilled when she opened her gift--and you can tell when teenagers aren't sincere with their comments! In fact, she missed the check we had put in the card, she was so excited about the makeup bag! [But she found it, as it has been cashed :-D ]
