Pattern software

Heathace | Posted in General Discussion on

Hello all-

I have been asked to make a wedding dress for a co-worker and I am honored that she wants me to make her dress. I have a degree in fashion designing but it was all based on a model size 8. How annoying!! Well my co-worker is probably a size 0 or 2 and is very petite. Grading was one of the subjects that I just didn’t seem to be able comprehend.

I am pondering purchasing some pattern software. Just wondering what types of products are out there that you love and adore and most importantly – are any of them compatible with MAC??

Thanks
Heather

I can't help you on the pattern software, but consider taking measurements from this woman's clothing, something that she feels fits perfectly, and base your muslin on those measurements.

Hi Neighbor ~ I'm in Hanover Park!

What a scary thrill - does she want you to "design it from scratch" or copy something she's seen, or use a commercial pattern? Or some combination? That will make a difference in how much grading and/or redrafting you have to do. I don't even know how small they make patterns these days - but Starzoe's suggestion is excellent. Gives you a solid starting point for fit. I got nuthin' about Mac programs -

Good Luck to you ~ and Bright Blessings! Kharmin
