Rolled edge – serging

sewingsurvivor | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hi there,  I need help!  I just purchased some embrodered sheer fabric and some raw silk to make curtains with.  I thought of serging the edge of the sheers and possibly the raw silk with a rolled hem similar to what you see on napkins, using a wooly thread.  The problem being is that I have not used my serger in a long time and I can’t find any info on how it should be set up to do this type of stitching. I think I am looper.  Not sure which one is supposed to have the wooly thread….. am I on the right track or do you have any other suggestions for these fabrics.

Wooly nylon in the upper looper and tighten the lower looper as tight as you can get it, sew with a short narrow stitch and play from there. I also tighten the upper looper quite a bit. Don't be afraid to play with the tensions.

With sheers I often use water soluble stabilizer over and under the edge.  It helps the sheer to roll more cleanly.  Mary
