I am new member. I have an old Bernina Bernette serger which I purchased new years and years ago. It has been a great machine. Never had to have it serviced. I made many ice skating outfits for my granddaughter.
I was given a Singer Merritt Lock serger (14u344b). It has no manual and no tools. Does anyone have access to a manual and tell me if I need a special attachment to do a rolled hem. Any tips welcomed.
I love serging polar fleece items.

http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html this site says it has the manual for your serger, if you check the dropdown menu.
Hope that helps..

Thanks for the tip.Gem
you're very welcome. Glad to help. I had one of those sergers years ago and I think it had a little needle in the plate that slid back and forth for rolled hems, but my memory is kind of faulty at times.. sort of like swiss cheese <g>
Do you recall if you needed to change the foot in order to serge a rolled edge? Or just changed the plate. Thanks,
Gem
I honestly don't remember.. wish I did. Just did a search and this is what the rolled hem plate looks like.. http://www.singermachines.co.uk/partsDB/index.php?function=detail&recordID=57
I'm thinking you'd just change the plate and use three threads, and it should do the rolled hem for you without a different foot, but my memory is totally shot. All I am picturing is my current serger which is a Juki and pretty different from the Singer.
I have a Singer 14U286B "Quantum Lock" , it uses the same rolled hem plate pictured in a previous post. I do not change the foot to do a rolled hem. I prefer the look of a two thread rolled hem, and often use woolly-lock for the looper thread with regular thread in the needle.
Hope this helps,
Becky
Ok, then all I need to buy is the rolled hem plate which is missing. I would rather not buy the manual since I do not think my granddaughter (age 15) will read it!!! I plan on giving her the serger. I need to find someone who can scan a few pages for me.Thanks,
Gem
You know your granddaughter, so maybe she would not read it; but I have known some 15 yr old kids who would! I was one of them! Please re-consider buying the manual for it.
