Hey there! I’m rather new to sewing and taught myself earlier this year. I have a question regarding sewing knits. More specifically, knit baby leggings. I’m having issues with my seams tearing the fabric. I currently sew up the pants using my machine, and then run the serger alongside that stitch. The fabric has been tearing at the stitch- not the stitch itself coming out, but the actual fabric ripping. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sewng Knits
Try stretch type needles instead of sharp or ballpoint as one can cut the fabric and the other can skip, then serge only as you may be able to skip the sewing machine.
sweater knits
Hello a sweater knit has to be treated differently than a regular knit as it will unravel like a sweater or panty hose. Trace the pattern pieces (they must be cut open with the fabric in a single layer) on to the fabric with seam allowances. Remove the paper and zig-zag around the each piece very close to the cutting lines to finish the edges before cutting making sure they will not unravel in the process. once cut stay-stich at the stitching lines and then stitch together that will also stabalize the seams. It seems like a lot of work but in the end you will have a finished garment that will wear well.
Cheers
