I’m sorry if this has been discussed before – i can’t seem to find exactly what I need in the archives, so please bear with me!
I’m sewing a pair of capris in a cotton fabric that has 10% lycra in it – just enough for a little give.
Do I sew these as if they were totally woven, or do I need to make certain changes in stitch, etc.?
Many thanks IA
Rosie

you sew them as if using a normal woven fabric but make sure that you make the waist band with the NON stretch running around you or you will be forever hitching them up.
Rosie, I pre-shrunk my fabric 'cause I am not going to air dry as suggested. Shrinks alot! I sew same as for woven and fit as for woven as well since I don't want skin tight capris. If you are sewing a style without a waistband as is popular be sure to put a "stay" in the seam of capri waist/waist facing. I use left over selvage from lining but narrow twill will work. The waist will continue to stretch unless you use the stay.
I used some iron on stay tape at the waist of stretch pants or skirts. It works well.

If you are putting in a zipper a little iron on interfacing in the seam allowance will stablize the area. I wash and dry my fabric with lycra the same as regular fabric and iron it with a warm iron. Also have used steam on it to get rid of stretching or puckering when sewing crossgrain. Just don't leave the iron in one place very long.
