THE Hepburn dress

JanF | Posted in General Discussion on

Just to let u know – it fits

but

it doesn’t quite fit me!!

The curse of my big chest strikes again.
Definitely time to pack away the dress and get the duvet covers done and I will post decent pics when back from holiday and Ive lost the weight which for some reason is suddenly attached to boobs and around middle – if I stand sideways and don’t show where the fastening should do up – it looks great.

A question for u all whilst I’m in France – do I fasten the dress with a zip (which might just hold it in – or with snaps and hooks as it is supposed to be fastened with in the instructions) and do I find a fantastic all in one “under boulder holster” which is what Pete calls a good bra!

Jan, so sorry about the dress.  Not sure they had zippers in the 30's, I mean they probably did, but was like a mail order item or something.  How true to period do you want to be?  I'm pretty excited about your jacket!  Can't wait to see the embellishment.  Is it too late to add extra fabric?  Maybe a gusset that goes from the armpit to the waist?

costumerval is right, snaps and hooks with a plaquette were the standard if you want authenticity, but i don't think that would matter in this case and i'd suggest adjusting for a zipper.
as a fellow big-busted gal, i find that zippers look smoother and avoid all that nasty pulling and gaping.
