the new issue of Threads, finally

fabricholic | Posted in General Discussion on

I don’t know why I have to say this, but I am so glad the new issue of Threads is on it’s way. I was about sick of looking at the other one every time I looked at the discussions. I like the different color scheme on the home page. Just wanted to say Yea!!!! Anyone else feel this way?

Whooo Hoo!! Finally, some redemption! The "Couches to Coats" article. I keep telling people that upholstery fabric is beautiful and they think I am crazy. "I am NOT going to wear a jacket that was supposed to be a chair!!!" Well pbtttthhh!! Some of my most beautiful work is done in upholstery fabric. The stuff has a great jacket weight, it's made to take a beating, and the velvets wash up to be soft and drape beautifully.

I'm done now. Phew nice rant...think I need a nap now.

I love upholostery fabric. Hubby thinks I'm crazy and i would be a walking sofa, at least that is better than a doormat...i think ;). I just haven't found the right type for me yet. I want to make a coat for winter. CherryPops

Where have you been Cherrypops? Hope you and family are o.k.Marcy

          Dear Fabrcholic,

I am alive and well. Family are ok too.

The discussions have certainly had a boost this past week or two, I am reading my way through them. So many new members too!

I like the new colour scheme on the webpage.

It is becoming cooler so I won't be wearing  the swimmers shown on the front of the magazine down here.

Not too sure how i'd go wearing the Bandeau Top, I'd have to put elastic under the arms, all strapless garments fall down. I got nuffin to hold it up! Plus I can't even wrap a sarong around myself properly. This quick to make will be put on hold.

I may need to pass on Linda Lee's article on skinny pants. If I lost 10 pounds, no-one would see me. :)

Might learn something with the jersy knit article.

I will wait as per usual for the magazine to arrive here. It is worth it.

I've also been doing more cleaning up and sorting out my sewing room. All patterns are in specifics, as is the fabric. Now I will decide on a piece and make something.

I purchased the Embroidery Deduper software programme. Ma had given me lots of emb. designs and many were doubles. I loaded all the designs onto the pc and the program deleted all the doubles. Saved me lots of time. Pc was working overtime so I haven't been on the internet for a while. Hubby is at the computer shop today buying more 'make pc go faster' things.

In the process of making bean bag cushion/chairs for a school raffle. One for a girl this time. Same pattern as before. simple sewing. i like those projects.

Time for a cuppa. Chat soon.

I would love to give up some of my weight to you, if you want it. If I would run, like hubby, I wouldn't have all this weight to carry around. It is so weird to think of you going into cold weather when we just got out of it. I am glad you are getting your embroidery, fabric and patterns in order. Wish I could say the same. I have had my hands full at work, because partner found a new job. I am by my lonesome, with more work, of course. I did request a day off and I am actually going to get it. My boss told one of the district managers to handle it while I am gone. Can't wait. I want to spend the day with my daughter who will be out of college for 3 weeks, and my grand daughter. Make something pretty.Marcy

          3. fabricholic | | #29

I just received mine yesterday. I have a lot to say about it. Good stuff.Marcy

    3. fabricholic | | #4

Can't wait to read this article. I use upholstery fabric for purses. I didn't think about the velvets. Very interesting.

      1. tmorris1 | | #13

I use upholstery fabric for all of my "period costumes" Real velvet is so expensive, and frankly harder to work with. Okay, how do I post this to "all?" Anyway, thank you all for the support, I don't feel so bad now. :)

        1. fabricholic | | #16

To send to all, just click the blue square with the arrow in it, by the name, then select ALL. I bet your costumes were beautiful. I love the look of velvet, actually named my dog Velvet, registered Marcy's Black Velvet. Hope you are having a good day.Marcy

          1. tmorris1 | | #17

Blue box with the arrow hey? I think that this is another one of those little things Firefox will not let me do. Oh well, at least I can use the spekk check LOL

          2. fabricholic | | #18

I have Firefox, also. Just hit the reply box and then right by my name fabricholic, you should see the square on the right, before Others. See it now?

          3. tmorris1 | | #19

Well Well Well, as my Father would say, it is a good thing that I am pretty... Thanks a lot for the help I found it now.

          4. Ralphetta | | #20

When I hit REPLY and get the options to respond, etc. they are labeled with PURPLE tabs.  The only thing in blue are the names it's going to/from.

          5. fabricholic | | #23

The blue square next to the To: and name is what you click to change to
            ALL.

          6. Ralphetta | | #25

            uh-huh, I know.  Thanks.

One of my all time favorite shirts was made with a cotton chintz remnent. I prewashed it which, to my suprise, removed the shine. That was OK because I still had a beautiful heavy cotton. I'm getting nostalgic about that shirt. Maybe I should go chintz hunting again.

      re: upholstery fabric.
One of my all-time favorite outfits was one I made during a summer break from college. I was working and needed a completely different wardrobe from student wear. It was a wonderful upholstery linen in a blue and green and white floral/paisley type print. Your comment reminded me of this; I hadn't thought of it in more than 50 years. Made an unlined jacket and straight skirt, and "Ellen Tracy" shell. It may've been too much, but I loved it and I was skinny and could carry it off.

Josefly that is the type of fabric i am looking for. I hope after 50yrs I can find something similar. I am slim/skinny so I can carry it off like you! Thanks CherryPops

        1. Josefly | | #22

Wish I could still carry it off. I used to wish I weren't so thin, and now......Good luck finding some gorgeous printed linen.

Alas, my new Threads has not yet arrived, but I am like you in that I always look to upholstery fabrics for vests, jackets & tote bags (& pillows).  They wash up beautifully, wear for ages & look great - always get compliments, too!

      1. tmorris1 | | #32

        Upholstery Fabric ROCKS!!!!

  2. Ckbklady | | #6

I'm liking the home page color scheme - are they going to change it with each issue? How fun!

    :) Mary

    1. fabricholic | | #7

Don't know, but it sure is refreshing. I guess I like change, after all.

  3. spicegirl | | #10

You had me confused for a while, but figured out you were referring to Gatherings new look....I think.

    1. fabricholic | | #14

Yes, sorry about that. I was referring to Gatherings new look and the new picture of Threads on the home page. Can't wait to receive mine. I will devour it, as usual. It would be cool if we got one once a month.

  4. Crazy K | | #21

I just clicked on the current issue and looked at it............I cannot wait to see the article on the pants that will make me look ten pounds thinner...............whoooppeee!!  Not that ten pounds will do it but it would be a start.....!!    I'm also curious about the ultrasupportive swim suit.........I'm afraid I would look like one of those rubber dolls that you squeeze and the eyes bug out.........anyone else remember those??

    1. fabricholic | | #24

Oh my goodness, I do remember those. They were kinda vulgar looking when those eyes popped out, weren't they. I don't even remember who had one, but I remember. Too funny.Marcy

  5. AmberE | | #26

Glad to hear that you all are enjoying the issue, especially from some who have not been as pleased in the past! We've had a slight facelift for the web site, just a freshener.

    1. MargieT | | #27

I am really enjoying the latest issue - especially the article on sewing jersey materials.  It was just what I needed.

      Marg.

      1. AmberE | | #30

Good---I'm glad we're hitting the mark!

      2. Josefly | | #33

I really like the "Master Class" article on turn-of-the-cloth. It takes the mystery out of the subject with great photos, and it will be very useful.
