Vintage Damask and Doilies

MishC | Posted in General Discussion on

I have inherited some old damask table cloths – some of them very badly stained and with some obvious wear. Others in good shape. Also doilies and some needlework linens. Wonder if anyone has any ideas for recycling these into wearables or home decor or art projects. Thanks for your help.

Taunton has a book "Sew Vintage" by Jennie Archer Atwood that should be very helpful to you. Sounds like you've got some treasures - good luck.

I've used this solution for cleaning old and vintage satin, taffetas, cottons.  Mix 1/4 c. Clorox II, 1/4 c. Dove liquid dish detergent (Brookshire's store brand is same) and  dissolve in 1 c. warm water.  You can increase amounts proportionately if needed.  Soak item in solution overnight or at least 8 hrs. and either hand wash or add all to washer and launder as usual.  It really works!
