Wedding dress fabric

curt0119 | Posted in General Discussion on

I am making a dress out of what I believe is a polyester similar to what wedding dresses are made out of. I found a spot were there is a snag in the fabric and I am afraid it is going to get bigger. Should I snip the snagged piece or should I use some type of a fabric glue to keep it from going further?

I suppose you could use some Fray check on it, but I wouldn't snip it!  How noticable is it?

Thanks for your responses. It's not very visable. I'm just concerned that the snag will get bigger when I clean the dress. What is Fray check?

Fray Check is a product you can find in the notions section of your sewing store.  It seals the fraying (in your case pulled) end of fabric or thread so that it does not unravel anymore than it already has.  Have you tried easing the thread back into the fabric?  If all else fails, ask your dry cleaner for advice:)

Don't snip it. Get a gadget called a snag-nab-it or a Knit-Picker (which is like a tiny latch hook) and  bring the snag to the wrong side of your fabric, sometimes that's all that needs to be done.
