Adorable Drawstring Bag

Another drawstring bag - this one was created by request for a friend, who provided both the main fabric and the lining fabric.

I made another drawstring bag, following the directions here with a few changes; this one was a “commission” piece for a friend, who provided me with both the main fabric and the lining (and several other small pieces of fabrics in trade). Although it is technically “done,” I may go out to the fabric store for some of the lovely trim I found this morning, and add that to the bag. It is by no means “plain,” but the trim would add a beautiful accent to the bag.

My friend asked for a slightly taller bag than my previous one, so I added 3 inches to the height of the pieces, cutting two 15″ x 15″ squares of each fabric (main and lining).

This is a wonderful fabric! It was hand-dyed to create a lovely, pastel wash, then embroidered with a “meander” pattern using a variegated thread in similar colors to the cloth. I believe the cloth and embroidery are both cotton. The pale pink lining is a quilting fabric which has a shimmer to it. The cording used as the drawstring is a bit stiff, so I may replace that with something a bit more flexible. And next time I make one this tall, I may shorten the ruffle a bit. 4.5 inches seems too long to me.
