SewStylish Spring Fashion Challenge 2014

Spring Denim Chambray Shirt

A classic chambray shirt has been on my list of pieces to sew for quite a while. It is perfect for spring and summer days when it is warm outside and cool in the air conditioned office or classroom. It can be worn casually and to church or as professional wear. With neutral denim it can be paired with many items from my closet.

When I went to sew the shirt I found I had only one yard of denim fabric and one yard of chambray, so I decided to create a two tone shirt with a contrasting yoke, pocket and sleeves. I liked this look because it keeps the shirt neutral but adds detail.

I used Burda’s Emily pattern #8153, but altered it slightly. I added the yoke and created a pattern for the pocket. I used blue denim and chambray fabric along with nine white buttons which i recycled from another men’s dress shirt. I love to reuse notions and fabric and throw less away!
