How to Best Prepare Your Hair and Makeup for Selfies

Taking a selfie and posting it on social media is a great way to tell friends about a new outfit or a fun party. Group selfies or “groupies” let people easily capture and share once in a lifetime memories with friends and family. However, everyone needs to look his or her best for a good selfie. Here are some easy tips on how to best prepare your hair and makeup for selfies.

Apply Eye Makeup First

That way, you can wipe off any stray eye shadow, eye liner, or mascara before using foundation or concealer. Use eye shadow in a neutral colour, and make sure not to apply too much since it can highlight wrinkles. On the other hand, a few layers of mascara emphasizes the eyes and makes them look bigger in photos. Blink down onto the mascara brush to get as close to the lash line as possible, and then let lashes dry before adding another coat. Add waterproof black eyeliner along the upper and lower lash lines to highlight the eyes even more.

Eyebrows add structure to your face on camera. Draw tiny, hair like strokes with an eyebrow pencil to fill in any sparse spots. Use tweezers to pluck any stray hairs, but don’t overdo it. You could make your eyebrows too thin. Use a clear brow pomade to keep your eyebrows perfectly in place.

Use Sheer Foundation

People don’t look good in pictures if they look like they’re wearing a lot of makeup. It makes wrinkles more noticeable and hides unique features that many people find attractive, like freckles or birthmarks. Sheer foundation still evens out skin tone, but it looks more natural since it doesn’t hide attractive features. Remember to apply foundation to your ears and your neck as well as your face. Otherwise, your face will be a different shade than the rest of you. This is a common mistake you could make when learning how to best prepare your hair and makeup for selfies.

Contour

Use matte bronzer or a contouring stick about two shades darker than your skin tone on the areas along your hairline, under your cheekbones, and along both sides of your nose from your eyebrows to your nostrils. Blend in the contour marks with a bronzer brush or your finger. Contouring makes the most attractive features look most prominent. You can use blush to contour for a more subtle look.

Keep Frizz Away

To prevent flyaways or frizzy hair, use a boar bristle brush right before a photo. It adds body and calms frizz. For a more permanent solution, use a leave-in conditioner to prevent split ends and an anti-frizz serum to fix flyaways. Leave just a bit of frizz to make selfies look more natural and spontaneous.

Try Something New

Don’t be afraid to try out a new hairstyle, a funny hat, or a new way to apply makeup. Selfies are so much fun because you can share them instantly with everyone you know, and everyone gets to tell you what they think of your new look.

Photosnap’s fun, portable photo booths give guests at weddings, school formals, corporate get togethers, and other parties an easy way to take great selfies and share them with friends. They include props, customisable backdrops, printed photos, and digital copies; and they can hold from two to 15 people. An attendant even stays to help guests use the photo booth. Hire, lease, or buy one of these fun devices.
