Threads senior technical editor Judith Neukam loves to watch movies from the Thirties and Forties to study the wardrobes. The women from those decades wore sophisticated, feminine suits that were anything but menswear-inspired. The construction techniques and stylish touches motivate Neukam to add delicious details to her own creations. The last time she was in Hollywood to peruse the suits at the Western Costume Collection (, she photographed some of these fabulous garments. In this article from Threads #164, we take a closer look at three vintage suits and see how yesteryear’s glamour can be applied to today’s patterns.
