Modification on Ribbon Clutch

I have been biten by the sewing bug hard once again. I really want to make full size vintage dresses, However I thought that it would be good practice to start with small things.

I came across this at the Sewing Republic site that is connected with Bernina sewing machines. The original suggestions is to use up left over trim. It calls for about four yards of trim. I gave away the majority of my trim when I moved. So I thought I would use up this embrodiered sueded cotton that has been in my stash forever.

It didn’t take me that long. There are four layers in this project. Some black polished cotton for the lining, some medium weight iron-on interfacing, some gray twilll(I used this in place of the muslin that is giving in the instructions. I wanted it to be stiff. When I got to do this next time, I want to make it  wider. It seems a little small. And I would figure out how to make it stiffer.

This is really cute. Isn't it fun to use up what you already have? Even a couple of layers of the same fabric would help give it a little stability.

I love the fabric, except with the layers that I used and the nap of the suede, it was too thick to sew the sides by machine, so I hand stitched them.
